Templates

Ready-to-compile projects you can download, preview or compile with your own files on top.

Templates are complete projects shipped with the server. Reading them needs no key; compiling them does.

Routes

RouteAuthReturns
GET /v1/templatesno{ templates: Template[] }
GET /v1/templates/{id}no{ template } including the file list
GET /v1/templates/{id}/files/{path}noOne file (path URL-encoded, e.g. sections%2Fintro.tex)
GET /v1/templates/{id}/archivenoA zip of the project, {id}/... inside
GET /v1/templates/{id}/previewnoThe PDF of the untouched template (compiled once, then cached)
POST /v1/templates/{id}/compilekeyCompile with overrides, same responses as /v1/compile
POST /v1/templates/{id}/jobskeySame, asynchronously; 202 with a job

A Template looks like this:

{
  "id": "ieee-conference",
  "name": "IEEE conference paper",
  "description": "Two-column IEEEtran conference paper with abstract, keywords, TikZ figure, pgfplots chart, booktabs table, equations and a BibTeX bibliography.",
  "category": "paper",
  "engine": "pdflatex",
  "entrypoint": "main.tex",
  "tags": ["ieee", "conference", "paper", "bibtex", "two-column"],
  "license": "IEEEtran class: LPPL 1.3 (Michael Shell / IEEE). Template content: MIT.",
  "source": "https://ctan.org/pkg/ieeetran",
  "variables": [],
  "files": [
    { "path": "main.tex", "size": 9120, "editable": true },
    { "path": "refs.bib", "size": 1204, "editable": true },
    { "path": "IEEEtran.cls", "size": 300123 }
  ],
  "links": {
    "self": "https://latex-api.crafter.run/v1/templates/ieee-conference",
    "archive": "https://latex-api.crafter.run/v1/templates/ieee-conference/archive",
    "preview": "https://latex-api.crafter.run/v1/templates/ieee-conference/preview",
    "compile": "https://latex-api.crafter.run/v1/templates/ieee-conference/compile"
  }
}

editable marks the files you are expected to change; the rest (classes, fonts) are usually left alone.

Compile with overrides

Send only the files you changed. A file with the same path replaces the template's copy; a new path is added. Everything else comes from the template.

curl https://latex-api.crafter.run/v1/templates/ieee-conference/compile \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $LATEX_API_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "files": [
      { "path": "main.tex", "content": "..." },
      { "path": "refs.bib", "content": "..." }
    ]
  }' \
  -o paper.pdf

The JSON body is a TemplateCompileRequest: files (optional), entrypoint, engine and options all override the manifest. Multipart files parts work the same way, and an empty body compiles the template as is. POST .../jobs returns 202 with a job envelope whose templateId is set.
